The new UMAC Project will consolidate medical services into new facilities on the subject property, which will be a proposed Five Star complex including a 60,000 SF Hospital; a 60,000 SF Medical Office Building and a 100-Unit Apartment / Villa Building.
The massive complex will be developed on approximately 12-acres of land in Barbados, Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, In the Caribbean region of the Americas.
The project consists of the new construction of an acute care inpatient tower, a helicopter landing pad, an outpatient treatment and support building, an above-grade parking structure and an IT support facility.
Consolidating inpatient and outpatient services into new buildings that optimize operational effectiveness, the Specialty Surgical center project will reduce operation and maintenance costs, provide outpatient facilities that accommodate planned patient visits, implement Barbados’ LEED requirements by incorporating sustainable design features, and create a campus designed for the well-being of patients and staff.
Requiring LEED Gold certification, the medical center building will develop a modern campus that serves the island’s healthcare needs while also aiming to protect the environment in which it is built.
When a client’s purpose is to promote wellness, self-sufficiency, and a better quality of life to families, it’s only natural that their built environment be healthy—responsible in energy consumption and harmonious with natural surroundings.
Integrating community with design, the exterior metal panel system and high-tech aesthetics pay homage to GHHD's approach to modern Hospital Construction Technology.
With the UMAC building's softened look, complemented by its human scale and an organic healing garden visible from the street to enhance the island experience for the community and welcome global patients.
Once inside, a calming, mural will greet visitors at check-in and easy way-finding directs them throughout the building. Light-filled, colorful waiting areas create a comfortable environment for patients and families. Full width and height windows in patient rooms bring in natural daylight and exterior views to encourage patient healing.
The innovative, unitized curtain wall façade system will provide optimal natural day lighting and comfortable outdoor spaces for the site's visitors. Sky terraces on each floor pop out from the façade to provide areas of respite immediately accessible to patients and caregivers.
